Digital Book Labs Company History

Digital Book Labs started as a one-man company with no previous experience in the business, Dan James was a school literature teacher with a passion for English literature. He worked as a school teacher with multiple schools and it was his passion for books and producing good content for young readers, once his students. He started working as a writer for a publishing house early on in his career to satisfy his passion for book reading. He was overworked for 18 hours a day and would often be found at his desk every morning.

Dan started attending all the relevant exhibitions and book publishing events, he met many publishing gurus and PR agency chiefs. He interacted with many of them, and found that he did not agree with the way books were promoted to the audience. He believed that they lacked the heart and vision of the author in the promotion. It was too much pomp and fuss that made it just noisy but all of it irrelevant.

He was once told by a PR agency head that he was too emotional about his work. That it was a business and he should be practical and think about profitability without investing his emotions too much.

Dan was sure that he had found a gold mine that had so much potential that was untapped and could be fixed with a little bit of leadership and heart in the work. Digital Book Labs came into being after he observes the publishing and PR business. He made sure he was addressing the issues in his work and it turned out great from the get-go, people found out about this work style and work ethic immediately.

In twenty years now, we are a company of more employees than we ever anticipated and a book promotion count of 5000+ books. We have relied heavily on our motto of doing ‘whatever it takes to deliver the best campaign to our clients. Our work is our happy place and we can safely say that about all our employees.

  • 5. 2002: First physical office opened in Yardley, PA
  • 6. 2004: 6 employees enrolled at Digital Book Labs
  • 7. 2006: Office moves to Cherry Hill, NJ with 18 employees
  • 8. 2009: 500 books promoted for our clients
  • 9. 2013: Company now has 25 employees
  • 10. 2015: 2000 books promoted
  • 11. 2016: Full-time staff has reached 35 employees
  • 12. 2019: 3800 books promoted
  • 13. 2021: 5000+ books promoted, 50 full-time employees, and growing by the day.
